Are you an aspiring or professional graphic designer? Would you like to get your name out by being featured on an established blog? Do you have great design skills that are just waiting to be seen by the world? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you’ll want to check out our most recent contest. I want you to create a logo, and in return you will reap various wonderful rewards. Read on for more details about this great contest.
I need you to create an incredible logo without compromise. The logo will be for a new site not previously launched. When you contact me, we’ll discuss the particulars and ideas related to the site. If selected, this logo will be used on all elements of the site from web presence, business cards, avatars, to paper materials.
You love graphic design, and I need your skills. In the process of working together, we may forge a relationship that expands beyond the walls of this project. Calwell’s need for an amazing graphic designer is never been more pressing as our clients continue to request this kind of work. I’m interested in rewarding you beyond that of things given the right circumstances. But, tangible things are important too. Here’s what you’ll get if your logo is selected.
Most importantly, if your design is chosen, I’m going to feature your design firm on this blog. This feature may include design process drawings, a profile of your process, or an interview. I will defer to you to decide how you’d like this to be covered, but it will be a full article on this site. I’m open to creative ideas, so don’t be shy. This is the kind of exposure that can’t be purchased.
In addition, you’ll get stuff. I know you deal with media, so I’ll be adding stuff just for you. Here’s what you’ll get right now – More than $280 worth of stuff!
Expect be handsomely rewarded for your efforts. We’ll provide ongoing updates as feedback and design progresses.
Update: (regarding free, or spec work): I am very aware (and sensitive) to the fact that no designer should work for free. I’m aware of the NO!Spec movement, and various articles across the Internet decrying the activity. First, a little context. This logo contest is for a small site I’ve been building and would not have turned into a paid engagement with a designer. Since there is not a serious requirement for logo treatment, I decided it might be fun to give something away and bring something to this new site that I can’t (or wouldn’t) do. If there are no contest winners, nothing materializes, and that’s ok. In addition, I have a few thoughts to add.
1. My intention is not to get anyone to work for free. I may not be offering money, but you won’t get nothing. Whether you feel it’s enough may vary, but you are being compensated for your efforts. Over and above that, I’m looking to create a relationship with a designer for possible future paid work.
2. Secondly, the work does not have to be fully formed. Having a basic sketch idea or even a rough description that is great would be enough. The intention here is to solve a small problem (a single logo) with an idea. If that idea is good, you win. Work on the final product can start. This is not a toil-for-hours-polish-a-logo-and-get-nothing scenario. That would be cruel.
3. I’m aware of the different formats and uses (and limitations). What gets created will need to be original work, and I’ll do my diligence to ensure that’s the case. Rest assured, once you provide the work, I will not return for more “support”. I return because what you do is amazing, and I want to expand your customer base.
That’s certainly no excuse for you not to get paid in actual money for your work. I’m not asking for that. If none of this works for you (or your company), please say no. I value what you do, and the process involved.
