You might have heard something about this recently. In Apple’s new iOS version 6, released in tandem with the iPhone 5, replaces the previously built-in Google mapping tool with Apple’s own tool. Many are angry with the missing details, poor mapping capabilities and, in some cases, incorrect directions.
Waze CEO Noam Bardin says:
“Apple went out and partnered with the weakest player,” – “They’re now coming out with the lowest, weakest data set and they’re competing against Google, which has the highest data set.”
There is even a Tumblr about the new iOS 6 Maps – The Amazing Apple iOS 6 Maps – We also have name for this Meme: MapGate. Oh, and some people are starting to call it a disaster.
I’ve tried it and it does indeed suck. Update, Tim Cook also apologizes for this. And, really, Ontarians are paying for how bad iOS 6 mapping is if this analysis is any indication.
