What Makes Your Writing Valuable?

Writing" by AJC1

That writing needs to hold some value is not a new concept. Those that write have some basic intuition that what they create needs to have some intrinsic value. Of course, if I want to write a science fiction story, it should entertain and enlighten those who read it. When I write on this blog, I carefully consider what use each post is to you. 700 articles later, I know some of them have been more valuable than others.

Adding “Writer” To The Stack

Last month I attended a very informal “Meet the Writer” event at my local library. Speaking there was Susanna Kearsley, an author of a number of great fiction books and bestsellers at that. I thought it would be amazing to meet an honest-to-goodness writer and see what she might offer about the writing process, getting published, and all things novel-related. Sure, she’s a fiction writer and I’m writing non-fiction, but I’ll keep that little tidbit to myself while there. Hopefully no one will notice I don’t fit, right?

The Big Blog Spring Cleaning

Calwell Logo

Starting yesterday, I have embarked on a process of cleaning up most of the 540 posts I’ve done here on the blog. This process aims to fix a number of messy things left after a large migration from Google’s Blogger. I ask for your patience in this painful and manual process.

What exactly does BLOG mean anyway?

While watching a recent episode of Jon Stewart – Jon was interviewing Jerry Seinfeld. The interview wasn’t a question-answer type process, it was more of a free flowing conversation.. one thing Jerry says is how unattractive the word “blog” is. I have to say, I agree, the word does sound like something you would spit up or something you could say instead of the word puke: “I just ate jello and it made me blog all over the carpet!”.
